LOOKING FORWARD
from our Chair of the Board of Trustees
2025 has been a year of real action for Twycross Zoo, and it is incredibly encouraging to see the progress
being made across all areas of our Conservation Strategy. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am proud
of the commitment shown by our teams, who have worked tirelessly to deliver against our ambition
as a conservation charity. Our mission is clear - to lead conservation e昀昀orts by protecting endangered
species, empowering communities, and fostering a deep connection to wildlife.
This year, we have seen that mission brought to life in meaningful ways. From working with partners
to support the reintroduction of the hazel dormouse to Leicestershire, to welcoming over 800,000
visits to the zoo, and inspiring more than 15,000 school students through curriculum linked education
workshops, the scale and breadth of impact continues to grow. Importantly, this is only the second full
year of delivery against our Conservation Strategy. The progress we are seeing now gives real con昀椀dence
in what can be achieved in the years ahead. Looking forward, 2026 will be another important year as we
build towards the opening of the Global Conservation Centre.
This signi昀椀cant development will act as a catalyst for our Conservation Strategy. As a new hub for
conservation action, it will strengthen our ability to deliver across our six priority areas, bringing together
education, research and practical conservation in one place. The Centre will include a purpose built
campus with classrooms, a bioscience laboratory and on site accommodation, creating new opportunities
to train the next generation of conservation scientists. Alongside this, a new orangutan habitat will play
an important role in securing a long term future for this critically endangered species.
Through the Global Conservation Centre, we will be able to accelerate our impact. From supporting
endangered species and strengthening our work with conservation partners, to inspiring positive
change in our visitors and communities, enhancing the role of zoos in society, protecting UK wildlife and
continuing our journey towards environmental sustainability.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank our sta昀昀, partners, supporters and visitors.
Your continued support enables Twycross Zoo to deliver on its mission and play a meaningful role in
protecting wildlife for future generations.
